We Hack Wii

USB Loader

Page history last edited by haruspex 2 days ago

Here's the latest Mediafire WeHackWii Package, if that's all you want.

First, some warnings:

Don't upgrade to Wii Firmware 4.2!

Instead of updating your Wii firmware, you can just use Wii System Channels Updater to update specific channels such as the Nintendo Channel or Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii Sytem Menu.  This will allow you to shop with the latest Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu.

However, this guide DOES work if you are on 4.2 and want to hack your Wii.

Don't use IOS60-Patcher to enable launching games from SD!

Instead use dop-IOS MOD to re-install IOS 60 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.0 or 4.1) or IOS 70 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.2) with the signature hash check (trucha bug). Also, if you are using Preloader and you 'dop' IOS60 or IOS70, remember to reinstall Preloader after 'doping'; otherwise, you won't be able to load the System Menu. Instead, boot HBC through Preloader to reinstall it.

...and without further ado...

What is USB Loader?

USB Loader is an application for the Nintendo Wii which allows you to to install and load your backup ISO game files to/from a USB storage device.  It also allows you to create such backups straight from the original DVD.

Main Guide (The 10 steps take about 20 minutes)

This Guide is targeted at people with no hacks/mods on their wii, so essentially a store bought machine. It will however work for people that have hacks already installed, simply do step 1 and then SKIP to part 5.

Disclaimers:
WeHackWii and it's people are not responsible for any harm made to your system by using our guides. This works on all Wii's to get them modded HOWEVER, on LU64 and newer wii's DO NOT use downgraders or anything that alters IOS files (besides what's in this guide), "CIOS installers," and "New IOS files from games released in 2009." (This may cause a brick [dead Wii].)

LU64 Wii's - This guide works, but after you have modded DO NOT downgrade any IOS files or install older ones (and you should just avoid cIOScorp anyway) as this may brick your Wii. It is suggested that once you have installed BootMii, make a NAND backup as soon as possible.

What You Need:

  • If you don't have the Homebrew Channel or Bootmii, download BannerBomb and the HackMii Installer.
  • Download the Mediafire WeHackWii Package (updated on November 18, 2009).
  • You may want to replace the USB Loader GX dol file in the package with the latest from the USB Loader GX revisions page or run the update option from within USB Loader GX if your Wii is connected to the Internet.

Instructions:

1. Load the contents of the WeHackWii Package to your SD Card.

Note: Skip steps 2-4 if you already have the Homebrew Channel and Bootmii (but make sure to do 4-1 if you don't have a NAND backup, otherwise you will have a horrible time trying to recover from a brick).

2. Follow the BannerBomb instructions to load BannerBomb and the HackMii installer onto your SD card properly, and launch HackMii installer.

3. You are now in the HackMii installer. Install everything (only the HomeBrew Channel is required, BootMii as boot2 is strongly recommended [although if you can only install as IOS do it anyway], and DVDx is at your discretion).

4. When done, exit to the System Menu.

---4-1. If you installed bootmii as boot2, it is suggested to do a NAND Backup before continuing. Read the BootMii Guide for more information.

5. Open the HomeBrew Channel.

6. Run Trucha Bug Restorer. (Note: If you're on Wii Firmware 4.2, Run Trucha Bug Restorer MOD.)
---6-1. Press B for no IOS reload.
---6-2. Choose downgrade IOS15.
---6-3. Press A on SD Card when it asks.
---6-4. Then press a button to exit.

7. Run Trucha Bug Restorer again from the HomeBrew Channel.  (Note: If you're on Wii Firmware 4.2, Run Trucha Bug Restorer MOD.)
---7-1. Choose IOS15 and press A. (Important)
---7-2. Wait till it says Press 1 then press it.
---7-3. Choose IOS36 menu. In there use these settings:
------7-3-1. Install IOS to slot (36)
------7-3-2. Hash check (trucha) YES
------7-3-3. ES_Identity YES
------7-3-4. Nand Permissions YES
---7-4. Then press A on install patched IOS36,
------7-4-1. Press A on SD Card when it asks and exit when it's done.

8. Open Trucha Bug Restorer from the HomeBrew Channel.

---8-1. Choose IOS36 and press A
---8-2. Wait till it says Press 1 then press it
---8-3. Then Choose restore IOS15.
---8-4. Press A on SD Card when it asks and exit when done.

Note: Step 9 is only for those on Wii Firmware 4.2, although you're welcome to follow it if you want to clean up your Wii.

9. Open AnyTitleDeleter DB from the HomeBrew Channel.

---9-1. Wait for it to load, then press A at the instructions screen

---9-2. Press A to load System Titles

---9-3. Find IOS249 (Note: If you can't find the IOS it's a good thing, go to step 9-6)

---9-4. Press A, wait for the info screen to load, Press A again to Uninstall this title

---9-5. Press any key to go back to the list of System Titles

---9-6. Repeat steps 9-3 through 9-5 for IOS202, IOS222, IOS223, and IOS250

Note: If your Wii is not connected to the Internet, follow the Hermes' cIOS 222/223 Guide
instead of doing step 10.

10. Open Homebrew Channel and run the cIOS222 v4 Installer
---10-1. Choose IOS36 for install

---10-2. Install Custom IOS 222

---10-3. Use IOS 38 merged with IOS 37

---10-4. Once the installation is complete, you're done with this guide.

You now have a fully hacked Wii with the following:
Homebrew Channel, BootMii, cIOS 222, and USB Loader GX

Now What?

To get started running backup retail games, visit the USB Loader GX page.

For WiiWare, please see the information at the top of the WiiWare page.

Just a quick note to tell you that the "WBFS (The Filesystem for your USB Drive) Managers" hyperlink links to Waninkoko's blog.

Thank you.

I have IOS249 installed but I dont know which version. How can you check what version of the IOS249 I have? Is it bad if I re-install version IOS249 if I already have one or if I already have v7?

It is okay to go ahead and install cIOS249 over-top of an old version. The installer will handle this just fine. If you are on v7, you are way behind. The current and final version is v14, and it is the most recommended version now. However, Waninkoko is no longer developing the cIOS, and so it is better to install Hermes' cIOS 222/223: http://gwht.wikidot.com/hermes-ios222-223

You need to use Trucha Bug Restorer MOD if you are on 4.2, which I have added to the WeHackWii Package now, and you can also snag it on its own here: http://www.mediafire.com/?0zt1l1gdmto

Umm Excuse me, I was doing Step 10. And my wii remote shut down on me. O.O I was wondering if I really need that step.
Because I also had to do the step with IOS36 Higher Than v3094 Fix. And that step was a success, but as soon as I went to continue on with step 10,
my wii remote shut off. Should I skip it? or is there something else I need to do?

Step 10 is not required, it's only for playing WiiWare.

Oh, and for adding a forwarder channel to USB Loader GX, which is not necessary. You can just use the HomeBrew Channel.

You can safely skip step 10 and 11. They are only for convenience. I'm not sure what is wrong with WAD Manager without more details. It works fine on mine and the Wii systems I have worked with. I'll get back to you with more info if I find it.

Oh, forgot to mention, you can't install WADs if you don't have room on the Wii. Go into the Wii memory management and make sure you have enough blocks available.

taken09 and Donovan, are you running firmware 4.2? If so, that may be your problem, and I need to update this guide for people on 4.2, a horrible upgrade that should be avoided.

Yeah, sorry, if you're on 4.2 then this guide won't work for you. You can use Amarokz's guide for now: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=183064

Okay, the guide should be updated for 4.2 now. The Mediafire WeHackWii Package has been updated, as well. If you don't want to snag the whole thing, then just grab the IOS249.wad file from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?mwjzmxkx4mm, and put the IOS249.wad file (unzipped) into the wad folder on your SD card. You'll need to take special note of the changes in steps 10 and 11 for those of you who were stuck at it. If you're still having problems, continue to post here and we'll try and figure it out.

At the moment, if you're on 4.2, the absolutely easiest thing to do is follow this wonderful guide: http://www.yafaze.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2066
