dop-IOS MOD

Page history last edited by haruspex 14 years, 2 months ago
This page is a sub-section of instructions utilized by the USB Loader guide.

Official dop-IOS MOD resources:
  1. dop-IOS MOD WiiBrew Page
  2. dop-IOS MOD Google Code Page
  3. Arikado's Blog

Note: Your WiiMote may disconnect between some steps. This is normal, just press any button on your WiiMote to reconnect and continue with the steps.

Restoring the Trucha Bug

Yes, unfortunately with dop-IOS MOD version 10 and up, you will have to launch dop-IOS MOD three times for this section.

TB Part 1: Downgrading IOS15
Downgrading IOS15 is necessary because it contains the NAND Boot Program, and in order to restore the Trucha Bug (an old exploit), an older version of IOS15 is required. This step will downgrade IOSI5 from revision 523 to 257.

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
  4. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
  5. Press down to select "Downgrade IOS15" and press A
  6. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 523
  7. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 257
  8. Once complete, press A to exit

TB Part 2: Restoring Trucha Bug to IOS36
After successfully downgrading IOS15, you will be able to use it to restore the Trucha Bug to IOS36, an IOS with greater functionality allowing for fakesigning other IOS files and reading/writing from/to the NAND.

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
  4. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
  5. Press A on "IOS36 menu"
  6. Use down/up/left/right to select

         Install IOS to slot: 36

         Patch hash check (trucha): yes

         Patch ES_Identify: yes

         Patch nand permissions: yes

  7. Press up to select "Install patched IOS36" and press A
  8. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS36 revision 3351
  9. Once complete, press A to exit

If you get the error "Installing ticket... ERROR! (ret = -2011)" during TB Part 2, alter step 4
4.  Select "IOS: 15" (use left/right to change if needed) and press A
Once the IOS successfully loads, press A to continue

TB Part 3: Restoring IOS15
After restoring the Trucha Bug to IOS36, it is a good idea to restore IOS15 to the latest version. In this step IOS15 will be restored from revision 257 to 523.

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
  4. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
  5. Press down to select "Restore IOS15" and press A
  6. Press A on <Load IOS from sd card> to get IOS15 revision 523
  7. Once complete, press A to exit

Stub IOS Removal
You only need to remove 202, 222, 223, 249, 250, and 254
If any of the above aren't listed, that's okay, it means there is no stub there to worry about
Info about each IOS file: IOS History

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Select "IOS: 36" (use left/right to change if needed) and press A
  4. Once the IOS successfully loads, press A to continue
  5. Press down to select "Remove stubbed IOSs" and press A
  6. Press A to continue
  7. Once complete, press HOME to exit

Checking Your Boot2 Version

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Press down to select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A
  4. Press B to continue without IOS Reload
  5. Press down to select "Show boot2 info" and press A

         [Your boot2 version is: _ ]

  6. Press any button to return to the menu
  7. Press down to select "Exit" and press A
  8. Press A to exit

IOS Installation/Patching/Upgrading
Requires your Wii to be connected to WiFi
Info about each IOS file: IOS History
WAD files for offline installation using WAD Manager: IOS and RVL Downloads

  1. Launch dop-IOS MOD from the HomeBrew Channel
  2. Press A to continue
  3. Select "IOS: 36" (use left/right to change if needed) and press A
  4. Once the IOS successfully loads, press A to continue
  5. Select "IOSs" and press A
  6. Use left/right to select an IOS to dop
  7. Press A to install the latest version OR Press [-] to install the old version

(e.g. - for IOS60, old v6174 is good, new v6400 is a stub and will brick System Menu 4.0/4.1)

  8. Press A to continue
  9. Press A to apply the Sig Hash Check patch (Trucha Bug)
  10. [Press A to apply ES_Identify patch]
  11. [Will download and install]
  12. Repeat [above steps] to install other IOSs, or
  13. Press HOME to exit

If you modify the IOS file used by the HomeBrew Channel (which, in some cases, can be IOS36; press the HOME button on your WiiMote while in the HomeBrew Channel to see which IOS yours uses), it will cause the channel to flip upside-down and backwards. This is to deter people from launching backup games (the creators of the HomeBrew Channel don't approve of game backups). Simply re-install the HomeBrew Channel via the HackMii installer (the HomeBrew Channel will pick a new IOS to utilize) to fix this.

I recommend Wiiload to launch the HackMii installer boot.elf file in a much easier method than Bannerbomb once you already have the HomeBrew Channel installed (the normal or upside-down/backwards version).

Recommended Wiiload third-party apps:
TransmitMii for Windows
WiiloadGUI for Mac

Hi. New here. I'm trying to do all this, and can't get it to work. I have System Menu 4.2U, updated by network download (before I even tried homebrew), and my Homebrew channel (Bannerbomb install) says its using IOS61 v21.29. I went into AnyTitleDeleter ad it says that my currently loader IOS is 36. It also won't allow any IOS to be deleted, even the stubs. Every time I try the DopIOS Mod instructions for reapplying to Trucha Bug, it fails. How would I go about doing any of this? Do I need to do a downgrade for my system menu? Is it even possible for me?

@Marcus - I have the same problem. I have System Menu 4.2E updated by network download and HBC IOS61 v21.29. I'm not sure the TBPart 1 is working for me. I get the error in bullet 8 of TBPart2. It get the same message as Pier Olivier said on Jan 10. So I don't think the ISO15 downgrade works.

@Marcus - An update for you. I went back to TBPart1 and in steps 6 & 7 I loaded from NUS instead of SDCARD. TBPart2 I loaded from NUS also. I didn't get the errors you and I had before. Maybe this will work for you as well. Gonna keep going now and see if the next step works.

Well, I found out (the hard way) that formatting the system memory doesn't reset the firmware. @moons33d - I'm going to try that out once I get the chance at let you know my results. (Not near a reliable connection right now. In-laws have a SLOW satellite setup.) Quick question about my system format though...will restoring the nand allow all my legal WiiWare and VC Games to be played again or will I have to go to the Wii Shop channel and redownload them all? (I didn't get rid of my Shop data, since I'm not getting rid of this Wii.)

Thanks for any ideas or help and if NUS is my only option then please tell me how to use it....

Yeah. It keeps giving me an error whenever I try to delete the stubbed IOSs in both the Dop-IOS MOD and AnyTitle Deleter....I've come so far, can't anyone help me? For reference, my Wii is V4.2U.

techboy said

at 9:22 pm on Feb 1, 2010

@Jason: If you are on stock 4.2 firmware, you need to patch IOS36. Follow the 3 steps at the top for restoring the trucha bug.

@antigravity99: NUS is Nintendo Update Server. Basically its a server full of unpacked wads that Nintendo uses for official updates.

Try this: Repeat the steps above for restoring the trucha bug, but instead of selecting <Load IOS from SD Card>, press right on the d-pad to change it to <Load IOS from NUS>. DOP-IOS will go out to Nintendo and download the IOSes it needs. You obviously need to have Wi-fi on your wii for it to work.

Hi, I am on version 4.1U, I followed all the instructions on this page and everything works fine.
However I had to use the TBR (Trucha Bug Restorer) instead of Dop_IOS Mod to avoid
the common problem of the "Could not open file: sd:/IOS36-64-v3351.wad.out.wad".
I also installed USB Loader_GX r904 as a channel which also works fine.
Thanks to all of you guys. You are great!!!

Now I want to use Dop_IOS Mod v11.5 to Dop my IOS60 to be able to read channels from the SD card and
this is where I hit a brick wall.
The actual version installed is 6174 and I want to stay on 4.01 so the v6174 wad is on my SD card.

When I try to Dop it I get the following prompts:
Using 6400 to downgrade to 6174
Getting IOS60 Revision 6400
<Download IOS from ...>

I read that the version 6400 is a stub and it will brick your Wii if you are on version 4.1
Is this a bug in Dop_IOS Mod v11.5
What would be the solution?

Thanks for any input. BM

techboy said

at 5:12 pm on Feb 6, 2010

My DOP-IOS did that too when I patched my IOS60 v6174.

On 4.2 wiis, it uses the stub wad it DLs to uninstall the stub, then installs v6174. Why it tries to do that on a 4.1 wii (where it's not stubbed to begin with) is beyond me. File a bug report on the DOP-IOS MOD site and see.

techboy said

at 5:13 pm on Feb 6, 2010

Oh, i forgot. That DOP-IOS MOD should be safe to use, even with that bug. I've used it twice myself and no bricks here.

Bert Marois said

Thanks techboy,
I also used Dop_IOS Mod v11.5 successfully to Dop other IOS's (37-38-53-55&56), I am just afraid to continue on with IOS60!
I will file a bug report on the DOP-IOS MOD site as you suggested.

Everything was moving along beautifully until I started the IOS Installation/Patching/Upgrading. I have 4.0U so I selected IOS60 v6174. After the download had completed, it started "Installing to Title 00000001-00000003c v6174." Then I received this message:

ES_AddContentStart (0000000100000003c, 0) Failed: -1017
install returned -1
installation complete!
ERROR: Something Failed. (ret: -1)
Continue?

If I hit continue, it will ask me if I'm sure I want to continue, and if I do, I just end up back at the IOS selection. If I don't continue, it kicks me out to the main page of Homebrew. Can someone please help me?

@mtello52, upgrading to 4.2 makes life annoying, yes, but it's still possible to get this done. You could try out DOP-Mii, the newly renamed latest version of dop-IOS MOD which you can get from here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/DOP-Mii

cheers mtello, ill give it a try when i get home, is it very different to using the dop-IOS MOD? can i use the same instructions?

do i need an active wifi connection to complete this process?
My understanding is that i have downloaded the files required so i dont need to connect to the nintendo update server?

yeah i didnt do all three parts of step 5 it happened in one step i lunched dop mii press A and choose Install IOS36 (v3351) w/FakeSign and follow the instructions THEN for step 6 follow..

haruspex said

at 5:52 pm on Mar 17, 2010

This is a very simple process.

1) Start DOP-Mii via Homebrew Channel and press A to continue.

2) Choose the first option (IOS: 36) by pressing A. You will see another menu, where you also have to choose the first option (IOS, BC, MIOS).

3) In the new IOSs menu, go to one of the stub IOSs that is installed (you can see that on the right under "currently installed', as it will show "(STUB)" then).
If you found a stub IOS you want to uninstall, press - (minus), then A to confirm.

Usually, people uninstall IOS202,222,223,249 and 250 if these are stubs.

And step 7 do as the guide says i had wifi but if u have all files it should work.

haruspex said

@Sam_d, The disc updates are, the majority of the time, only specific IOS upgrades. The disc is rarely actually caring about what System Menu you are on and really just wants you to update a specific IOS. For example, IOS56 needs to be upgraded for Rock Band. Usually a Google search or a visit to http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showforum=104 will help you determine which IOS needs to be upgraded.

You will upgrade these IOS files using http://wiibrew.org/wiki/DOP-Mii

You can also install Preloader or Priiloader to block future disc channel updates: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader or http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader/Priiloader

You don't have permission to comment on this page.
