USB Loader GX

Page history last edited by paulb 13 years, 10 months ago

If you came from the USB Loader page, just go straight to the USB Loader GX ReadMii: You can skim past all the complicated installation procedures, as you already have it installed.  You can use the HomeBrew Channel to launch WAD Manager 1.5 to install the USB Loader GX Forwarder channel.  This will allow you to launch USB Loader GX straight from the Wii Channel menu instead of launching the HomeBrew Channel every time.  Once you launch USB Loader GX with either method, you're ready to follow the ReadMii on setting up your USB drive and loading/playing games.

Instructions for hacking your Wii from scratch, including installing USB Loader GX, are located on the USB Loader page.

USB Loader GX is a configurable USB Loader client based on libwiigui, giving it a slick, clean, powerful, and very usable graphical interface.

For information related to it, please review the official ReadMii located here: http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/help/readmii

All necessary downloads and useful tools are mentioned in that ReadMii as well as at the official USB Loader GX website:

http://usbloadergx.koureio.net

Official Feature List:

  • The GUI is completely based on the awesome libwiigui by Tantric
  • Game information: reads game info from a xml file in your config folder like publisher, developer, year, rating, genre etc.
  • Widescreen support: Without any special themes for widescreen
  • Alternative dol loading: Supports special dol files needed to launch some games (e.g. Mortal Kombat)
  • Loading from USB: Loads files (images, configs etc.) from SD or USB (needs a FAT32 partition on the drive to be primary and active).
  • Loading from backup Disc (Remember to use high quality DVD-R at 4x)
  • Global Settings and "per game" settings
  • Parental control: Set levels for each game, set a password for install/remove/etc.
  • View modes: simple List Mode, Game Grid and Game Carousel.
  • Supports Themes: Create your own theme and use it with the loader
  • Cover download: Download "normal" covers, 3D covers and disc images for all the games on your HDD (big thanks to all people hosting them)
  • Look and feel like the original Wii Menu: Use rumble feature, button sounds, background music, disc slot lights up etc. (you can also turn it off in the settings)
  • Loads all the needed files from your SD-card
  • Language file support: use your native language for the loader.
  • Custom sounds: for now only ogg custom sounds possible.
  • Playstats: shows you how many times you played the game
  • List sorting & Favorites: you can sort the list by playstats or names. You also can display your favorites only.
  • Update function: update to the latest revision from inside the gui (requires internet connection).
  • Homebrew & Title Launcher: Launch you favorite homebrew apps and channels from within the loader.

Have you tried going to the official USB Loader GX site? We support hacking your Wii, but individual software support isn't necessarily our specialty. This is especially true with such heavily developed pieces of software like USB Loader GX. They are constantly updating (which is wonderful) and have a very active community which can help you get things running smoothly.

first off. i have to thank everyone here for posting such great info on wiimod topics. noob to wii hacking, have 3.3u and followed the wehackwii guide to the t. could only install bootmi as ios, everything appears to have installed properly. in usb loader gx can only install one game to my usb drive. now when I go to install a game or insert a disk to select install game screen goes blank white except for gx menu background and music still playing. the system is frozen but is still sensing the wiimote and can do nothing other than unplug the wii to restart. I have read about reverting back to rev 921 or earlier to fix this exact problem. I can't find anything about rev 921 what it is or how to install this. thought i was getting a grasp with all of this stuff after having spent many a night reading about everything. needless to say it has been fun but frustrating as i don't know where to start and what i did wrong. maybe i need to just reload everything again, firmware update and then reload? drive has been formatted with a wfbs partition properly and is sensing correctly. any ideas? have come across numerous other glitches after having done this and have to unplug my wii alot to restart. hope encountering this many bugs all the time is not normal to this. Of course I would anticipate some. any help would be much appreciated.

@scott
Can you give us some more information mate?
Are you talking about playing backup discs via neogamma?
Original via the disc channel?
DVD movies via WMC? (Wii doesn't play back DVD's by default)
Did you follow the guide to the T
Were there any errors during installation?

If you have a NAND backup it would restore the IOS files to whatever state they were in beforehand

Also double posting isn't going to fix your Wii any faster

@Scott: You can use DOP-Mii to export and IOS report in the form of a spreadsheet. If you used the WeHackWii package and followed the guide here, you'd already be set up for running USB Loader GX.

sorry...no errors during install... black wii's wont play dvd even if mod-ed(something to do with the new drive)... i had neogamma and after some research sort of got some info on usb loaders and such... now just looking for info on partitioning. now rather than start over(i did realize im good to go for loaders) just trying to find the right stuff i need to load iso's from a flash drive. i tried easus but didnt know that it wont recognize removable storage. so now what do i do.. have followed the guide as far as installing homebrew, boot mii(without a nand backup) hackmii and resoring truchabug. so yes im ready for a usb loader. but what do i do with my flash drive? i have multiple backups ready to go on my pc but im stuck.

Hello, I just bought a new Wii 4.2U. I am kind of a noob, but my friend helped me install the Homebrew Channel and USB Loader GX. When I go into the USB Loader, I can see all of the covers of the games I have downloaded on my external hard drive, but when I click on any of them to play them, an error message with no number pops-up on a black screen saying "An error has occured...consult Wii Manual" (not the 002 error). I was following a guide on Wiiso.com to the letter. I have been searching for an answer for a couple weeks now. I am about to just try a different loader such as Uloader or Wiiflow. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions????
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

P.S.
I have tried deleting the stubs in any title delete but they wont delete, I know I have a good IOS36 tho.
I have been told to install 202,222,223,224,249,250 in pimp my wii. When I go through pimp my wii, it skips from IOS70 to IOS254, so I cannot install them that way. I have installed them through wad manager, and that didnt not do anything.

What exactly am I missing? Thanx for any help

@Freddy2010
Have you tried deleting the stubbed IOS's with DOP-Mii as suggested in the wehackwii package?
The errors you are receiving are because you do not have a cIOS installed so the Wii cannot access your games

@Scott
Firstly, make a NAND backup.
That way if your Wii bricks you have a way to fix it
Is BootMii installed as boot2? If not I would also recommend installing preloader as brick protection

You also need to install a cIOS so you can access your backups from the HDD/flash drive
These need to be in FAT format, or WBFS format (this can be achieved using wbfsmanager on your pc or through USBloaderGX if memory serves)

i have a cIOS installer but when i start it , i get a black screen. boot mii is on boot2... and when i try to install usb loader i get a black screen so wtf? i give up. its not worth all the damn trouble im having to go through just to play my back ups... i have wbfs manager and my flash drive is ready, however my wii is not apparently... so im done with this and i just want to return my wii to stock. so back to my original post... HOw do i revirginize my system?

Serberus said

at 10:10 am on May 28, 2010

@Scott: You shouldn't give up. If you have HBC and USB Loader GX on your system, you're almost there. Grab DOP-Mii and put it on your SD card in the apps folder. Load it up via the HBC, and follow the stub deletion guide on the USB Loader page. You'll also be able to see which IOSs are not installed.

wow thanks for continuously avoiding my question....i will try this one more time i already have dop-mii i will try this guide and see what happens. if this doesnt work i will expect an answer on how to return to stock

im sorry...this whole experience has been a long and frustrating one...first with finding out the hard way that the black wii will not play any dvd even with the best mods. (burnt, movies, etc) and now trying to figure out what goes where, what to delete, what to install. and all i wanted to do in the first place was back my games up via disc and now i cant do that. so the usb loader thing is just another aggravation. i dont want to give up...the thought of being able to load games from a usb stick sounds really cool and for me , has a load of useful possibilities. so... im sorry if i seem short or shi77y. i am new to the wii mods but great with computers but i seem to be having a horrible time dealing with both. like i said.... i will try again.

249= 36868 get some cios action on and come back and see me... i have followed the guide and im still stuck...what am i missing....instead of the guide is there a way for some one to "hold my hand" and walk me through this?

scott said

at 1:36 pm on May 28, 2010

paulb said

at 9:05 pm on May 28, 2010

@scott
We understand your frustration, but were kinda new to black Wii's too
TBH I don't think anyone here has modded one yet

To answer some of your questions....

USBloaderGX link is right at the top of the screen.

When you say USBloader won't install do you mean it won't run from the SD card?
As you don't actually install usbloader, it runs from your SD card via a forwarder channel
or the homebrew channel, unless your trying to install the .wad version (via wadmanager)

If you followed the guide to the T you should have cIOS222 & 249 installed.
Did this happen? Or would DOP-Mii not allow you to delete the stubbed IOS's?
The error you describe for USBloaderGX tells me you haven't installed them.

The NAND backup (if you made one) will restore you IOS's to the point they were in (via BootMii),
if not you can use the IOS's required (check with techboy on that) on the IOS page
provided you can run DOP-Mii of course.

If you followed our guide, the only IOS modified was 36
Unless you updated the wiiware ones (53,55 & 56)

Your last question is a bit vague
The HomeBrew channel is just a launch platform for homebrew software
If you mean what software you need to hack your Wii it's all listed on http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/USB-Loader
Or, download the wehackwiipackage and follow the readme included,
all the necessary files are included in there

If I misunderstood anything, sing out

Also what are you using to play DVD's? WiiMC by any chance?
If they are copies the Wii is VERY picky about the media used
DVD-R Verbatim or LG work great

techboy said

at 9:26 pm on May 28, 2010

@paulb: A black wii is just a regular new-revision hardware ("LU64+") wii in a black case. They're modded the same any other wii. As with all LU64+ wiis, don't downgrade them below 3.4 unless you want a brick.

Pretty much all black wii's ship with boot2v4, firmware 4.x, fixed boot1, and a D3-2 (or the still ultra-new D4) drive.

Parts from all other wiis are compatible, regardless of the color or the age of the donor console.

does anyone know how to delete cover images that were downloaded with the usb loader?
it appears to have gotten hung up while downloading a cover and now the usb loader crashed everytime i start it up.
when i hook the drive up to my pc i can't view the contents on it - so i don't know how to delete the covers and try again.

i thought i could do it with wbfs manager - but not seeing any option.

thanks!

I am using the USB Loader GX Forwarder.wad

I may try to install a different usb loader or start over again.

Also, I found that my 320GB Seagate FreeAgent Go ST903203FAA2E1-RK is on the list of not working HDD on wiihacks.com USB Compatability list. I'll also try a different HDD. Hopefully that works!!!

paulb said

at 3:24 am on May 29, 2010

@techboy
Cheers for that bud
I didn't think there was any major difference other than a few users seem to be having issues softmodding them

@sandlog
The covers are kept on your SD card in the folder SD:/images
You could also try deleting your usbloader config file SD:/config/GXGlobal

@freddy2010, scott

Considering you both used guides from other sites I would suggest you both run through
the wehackwii package as this "should" fully mod an LU64 Wii.

@scott: USB Loader GX is pretty good for compatibility. About the only game I can think of that people have had issues with is Tatsunoko vs Capcom. If you do run into any trouble, don't hesitate to ask for help. That's what we're here for.

On a completely different subject...who's psyched about the releases coming to Wii. Donkey Kong Country Returns, Skyward Sword, Other M, I can't wait!

paulb said

There are some friggin awesome games coming out for Wii in the next 12 or so months mate
It's currently top of most lists for most anticipated games after E3
Some of my "can't wait" games are NBA Jam and Goldeneye remake

Please Help! Everytime I start this thing from the hombrew channel, it goes to the USB Loader GX menu, as expected, but if i move the pointer over a button or click on something, my wii freezes. The pointer won't move and no matter what I click, the screen won't do anything. It shows the menu and where i was pointing. I don't think I've done anything wrong, it just won't work! Any ideas what's going on and what I should do?

paulb said

To get black ops running (mp at least) you need to install herme's cIOS222v5 as 224 base 57 (or waninkoko's if you prefer 249rev20b)
Then set the loader IOS as 224 in your USBLoader options.
You may also need to update IOS 56 & 57 unpatched (use multi mod manager for this)
